How to get organised in 2021: the start

I know that becoming organised is a very daunting thing. It seems absolutely impossible, right? But, it’s not! You just have to know where to begin. Welcome to these new series on how to organise! I’m very passionate about this subject, because it does change your life for the better. Let’s get into some initial steps!

First things first

First of all, you will absolutely need the following things: a pen, a journal, some blank paper and, if you want to go all in, a marker or two and a ruler. These are things everyone normally has laying around the house. If you don’t want to use a dated journal, you can always go for a bullet journal. It gives you a lot more freedom, but that’s absolutely up to you! And no, you don’t have to be creative at all to have a bullet journal.

Let’s do this! Let’s get organised and plan your life. I know, we don’t have too many things to plan right about now, but that’s actually perfect to start out. It means you don’t have to worry about too many things, well not as many as usual.

Create a list

The first steps are fairly easy. You need to take a blank piece of paper and just write down every single task you can possibly think of. And with everything, I mean everything. Cleaning the toilet, picking up groceries, work projects, everything. Normally this list is enormous and you will start freaking out right about this time. But, don’t worry. The list is supposed to look this big. You are right on track!

Take another piece of paper and write down different categories. For me, that would be work, blog, household, and other. Just sort all of your tasks into those categories to see the kind of tasks you have. That’s it for now. These are the first steps to getting organised.

Categories

There’s only one thing I want you to do, and this is something I still have to do as well. Just for a week write down your energy levels. For example, on Monday I had planned three enormous tasks to do after work. I didn’t get round to doing this, because I was just too tired from teaching all day. Mondays and Fridays are my busy days, so from now on I will take that into account. That means that on Monday, for example, my biggest tasks will be to go on a walk and to workout. You see where I’m going with this?

    The last chart/picture looks like the Eisenhower matrix which is a great way to organize your tasks. Organization is so critical to get more work done so thanks for the great tips!

      It actually does look like the Eisenhower matrix. I didn’t think of that before! Knowing how to be organised and knowing what’s important for you to do or to delegate is just so important to be productive and to get everything done. Thank you for your comment!

    I absolutely agree with you, it is very important to start the year with some kind of a plan. From my own experience, it is very easy to lose track of things unless you put them on paper. Your bullet journal looks awesome. Thank you for the suggestions, I found them very useful.
