  • Make-up brushes: part 1

Welcome to the first post in the beauty series! I am pretty damn excited about this, as you will probably see throughout the rest of this post. I had only just started playing around with make-up more, when a friend of mine commented on the fact that I did not have the appropriate brushes. She was absolutely right, I had about five make-up brushes to do everything. Since she is an absolute make-up expert, in my opinion, I followed her advice and bought myself a nice and complete set of brushes.

So, she introduced me to this online make-up shop called ‘Boozyshop’. It may or may not have changed my world and maybe emptied my wallet a bit. I went with a set of 24 brushes. I will put the link to it below. In my eyes, it’s a bit of an investment, though the price is quite alright. It was 40 euros for the whole set, which isn’t a lot for 24 different brushes.

Even though, I am not an make-up expert at all, I immediately noticed the difference in brushes. It might also just be the fact that I finally had the right brushes to do everything. If you are, however, looking for a complete brush set, I highly recommend you buying this one.

I will start this series off by talking about the brushes I use to make up my face. In the next post, I will talk about the brushes I use to do my eyes. So let’s get to it, shall we?

Onto the brushes and what they are used for! As you can see on the picture blow, there are a few brushes that do the same thing but just vary in size. Then there are also a few brushes that are meant for the same thing but that are a bit different in shape. It all depends on what you like using the most. I personally don’t know yet what kind of brushes I would enjoy using the most, so I like experimenting with the different options.

    Overview face brushes

In the next two pictures you can see the two powder brushes in a bit more detail. The black one is a bit bigger and fluffier than the brown/pink one. I enjoy using them both, and basically just alternate between the two.

The angled buffer brush can be used for many different things. Some people use it for foundation, others for powder, blush or contouring. I personally haven’t used it just yet, but I will definitely try it out in the near future and report back to you!

The next couple of brushes are meant for putting on highlighter. Now, I have to make a small confession. I had never used highlighter before I bought this brush set. However, because I bought those brushes, I also bought highlighter to try it out. I have never looked back since. I’m personally a bigger fan of the smaller brush, because it applies the highlighter more, well, precise.

Next up: blush! I owe only one kind of blush and it’s one that fits me perfectly. So, why would I buy more if I have the perfect one? Absolutely love the brush and I use it every single day.

Contouring… I have personally never contoured in my life. I might try it one day, but then again, I might not. So, unfortunately I can’t really review these brushes or tell you which one I enjoy using the most. If you contour and you are a pro at it, please let me know how to do it, because it scares the absolute sh*t out of me.

Onto the stippling brush. This brush can be used for about everything: foundation, powder, blush, bronzer and highlighter. I haven’t used this one yet either, because I like using different brushes for different steps.

Then the last brush: the fan brush. You can use this brush for applying a light coat of highlighter and bronzer. It can also be used to remove excess make-up. I personally mostly use it to apply highlighter or to remove excess make-up.

Finally, I always use this beauty blender to apply my foundation or BB cream. I’m personally a bigger fan of BB cream and use that almost every single day. I like the way this blender applies my make-up and will definitely buy more in the future.

That’s all of the brushes for today! I hope you enjoyed reading this post and I will see you very soon!
